Open and close a cash register
Start a till with the right opening cash and hand over a clear record at the end of the shift.
Start the shift
Select the store you will sell from and open POS using your own staff account. If you do not have an open register, Inventix asks you to open one before checkout. Enter the cash physically in the drawer, not the amount you hope to sell today.
Keep each cashier's access appropriate to their role and location. An open register belongs to the staff account that opened it; sharing a login makes a shift harder to explain.
During trading
Complete sales in the register, record the payment method actually used and keep any related expense reference. A held cart is not a completed sale. A manually recorded card payment is not a card charge: complete that payment with your separate provider before recording it as received.
Use held carts if a customer needs time. Use the supported return workflow to reverse a completed transaction rather than trying to hide it with another sale.
Close the shift
- Finish or leave an appropriate note for work still in progress.
- Open the register details and choose the close action.
- Count the cash actually present. Enter the cash in the register and the cash being submitted for handover.
- Complete the submitted card and other payment totals where shown. Add a note that explains a difference or handover.
- Save the close once, then review the recorded totals.
The register records a closing snapshot of the shift. A second attempt to close the same register is not a new shift; open a fresh register when trading starts again.
If the cash and sales differ
Check opening cash, recorded payment methods, refunds, expenses and credit sales before assuming money is missing. Sales and payments answer different questions. Keep the register reference and ask support if a saved close does not match the records.
Continue with payment methods, expenses and reports.
